Theory

You’ll receive an email to read the Scuba Diver theory before the course, or directly at the dive center.


Scuba Diver Course Schedule

At AQUATAO, the SSI Scuba Diver course runs over 2 days / 4 dives in small groups of up to 4 students per instructor.

 Day 1 – Morning
 Learn the basic scuba skills
 Understand equipment setup and safety rules
 Study diving mechanics and pressure effects
 Day 1 – Afternoon
 Equipment familiarization in shallow water
 First two training dives (2–12 m)
 Day 2 – Morning
 Theory review
 Final knowledge test
 Day 2 – Afternoon
 Two open water dives between 6–12 meters
 Explore Koh Tao’s coral reefs with your instructor

How long does the Scuba Diver Course take?

The SSI Scuba Diver Course takes only two days to complete at AQUATAO. It includes theory lessons, skill practice in shallow water, and four open water dives around Koh Tao. It’s ideal for travelers with limited time who still want an official diving certification.

Do I need to be an experienced swimmer?

No — you only need to be comfortable in the water and able to swim short distances. Our instructors will guide you step by step in a safe, relaxed environment. Many of our students take their first real dives with us here in Koh Tao.

What’s the difference between Scuba Diver and Open Water?

The Scuba Diver certification allows you to dive up to 12 meters, always accompanied by a professional instructor. The Open Water Diver course, on the other hand, qualifies you to dive independently up to 18 meters. You can easily upgrade from Scuba Diver to Open Water later by completing just two extra training days.

What will I learn during the Scuba Diver Course?

You’ll learn how scuba equipment works, how to communicate underwater, and how to manage your buoyancy and safety procedures. The course includes two theory sessions and four dives guided by our SSI-certified instructors.
