Small actions, big impact: let’s protect our oceans together.
Summary
Our eco-friendly philosophy
Diving places us at the heart of marine life. Climate change, species decline, and plastic pollution are major threats we face every day.
We have removed single-use plastics, implemented reusable alternatives and trained our team to follow eco-responsible habits within the dive center and on our boat.
Throughout training and boat briefings, we remind divers of the correct behaviour needed to preserve fragile ecosystems.
1. Choosing a reef-safe sunscreen
Some sunscreens contain chemicals that cause coral bleaching. Prefer mineral filters such as zinc oxide or titanium dioxide.
Avoid ingredients like oxybenzone, PABA and benzophenones.
The best solution? Wear a UV rashguard between dives!
2. Reduce plastic waste
Litter thrown on the ground often ends up in the ocean, threatening fish, turtles and seabirds.
Opt for reusable alternatives:
- Metal bottles
- Metal straws & cutlery
- Reusable bags
- Refillable products
3. Do not touch coral
Coral is a living organism. A simple touch can remove its protective mucus layer, introduce disease and even cause death.
To avoid accidental contact:
- Maintain proper buoyancy
- Control your fin kicks
- Observe with your eyes only
Environmental regulations in Thailand
Thailand has progressively strengthened environmental laws, updated again in May 2025:
- Limited number of divers per site, per day
- No gloves, nets or objects that can damage marine life
- No underwater cameras for beginners (less than 40 logged dives or without Advanced certification)
Local conservation at Koh Tao
Koh Tao is known for its strong conservation culture. Artificial reef structures are installed to support coral regrowth and provide shelter for marine species.
The island regularly organises beach and underwater cleanups, in which our team participates.
