The beginnings
It all started with two passionate adventurers: Coco and DJ. Travel, the ocean and the joy of sharing quickly became the foundation of a long-term project.
In 1998, while travelling in Tahiti at the age of 16, Coco discovered scuba diving for the first time. It was a revelation. After studies in mechanics and a career at Airbus, he kept diving all over the world, eventually settling on Koh Tao and becoming an instructor.
In 2009, DJ, working in nightlife in France, came to Thailand and fell in love with island life. Curious to learn more, he completed his diving training and soon joined Coco on Koh Tao.
The creation of AquaTao
When the dive center they were working for closed down, an opportunity emerged. Ideas flowed, values aligned, and AquaTao was born. In December 2012, the center opened in Mae Haad with a vision based on safety, pedagogy, fun and professional standards.
Resilience through Covid-19
Like many businesses, AquaTao was heavily affected during the Covid-19 crisis. To survive, the center had to temporarily “go into a box”. Thanks to determination, support and patience, we were able to reopen stronger than ever.
A new location
After reopening, we moved to a new, more convenient and improved location, better suited to welcome divers before and after their adventures at sea.
Opening to the international market
Although our team has always welcomed divers from all over the world, the post-Covid period encouraged us to become fully international. Today, our instructors can teach in English, Thai and French, making our courses accessible to local divers, travellers, expats and international communities.
We are proud to offer high-quality training to a growing number of Thai and English-speaking divers, while still maintaining our signature friendly and personalised approach.
AquaTao today
Present on Koh Tao since 2012, we are proud to have trained thousands of divers: complete beginners, passionate explorers and future professionals. Each course is unique, and every dive is an opportunity to share knowledge and passion.
