• Nitrox Specialty in Koh Tao

Learn how to dive safely with enriched air and enjoy longer dives on Koh Tao’s best dive sites.

What is Nitrox?

Nitrox is enriched air. Instead of breathing normal air (21% O2), the oxygen content is increased to 32% / 36% / 40%. This reduces the amount of nitrogen absorbed by the body while diving.

By reducing nitrogen exposure, you can extend your bottom time and/or increase your safety margin without exceeding no-decompression limits. Nitrox does not allow you to dive deeper.

FAQ - Nitrox Specialty in Koh Tao

Do I need to be certified to take the Nitrox course?

Yes. You must hold an Open Water certification (or equivalent) to enroll in the Nitrox Specialty.

How long does the Nitrox course take?

The training lasts about 2 hours and is mainly theoretical. Practical dives are optional but strongly recommended.

Does Nitrox allow me to dive deeper?

No. Nitrox increases your bottom time and safety margin but does not allow deeper dives.

Is diving with Nitrox safer than regular air?

Yes. Because the mix contains less nitrogen, you reduce the risk of decompression sickness and increase your safety on repetitive dives.

Do I really need to do the optional dives?

While optional, they help you practice blending analysis, MOD control, and labeling procedures. They are especially useful if you plan to dive wrecks or deep sites.

Can I use Nitrox for fun dives in Koh Tao?

Absolutely. Nitrox is very beneficial for sites like Chumphon Pinnacle, Sail Rock, and local wrecks where bottom times tend to be longer.

What gas blends will I learn to use?

Most divers use EAN32 or EAN36, but you will learn how to handle different oxygen percentages safely.

Is there an exam?

Yes. A short theoretical exam validates your understanding of oxygen exposure limits and safety protocols.

Can children take the Nitrox Specialty?

Yes, from 10 years old, provided medical conditions are met.

Is medical paperwork required?

You must complete a medical questionnaire or provide a doctor’s certificate.

What equipment do I need for Nitrox diving?

Standard scuba gear is fine. You will be provided with a Nitrox cylinder and analysis equipment.

Should I take Deep Diving after Nitrox?

Many divers combine Nitrox with Deep Diving to maximize bottom time at deeper sites (30–40m).
